Meet the tutors
Joseph and Cassidie became friends while studying at the City & Guilds of London Art School. Since both graduating with a 3-year Diploma in Ornamental Woodcarving and Gilding in 2015 they have both enjoyed successful careers as professional woodcarvers for private clients.
Joseph Murphy
I took a traditional route to woodcarving through an apprenticeship in carpentry and joinery. I worked for a number of years on-site before training in classical woodcarving at City and Guilds of London Art School. My work combines conservation and restoration carving with commissions for original sculpture, uniting traditional methods with contemporary forms and themes while capturing fleeting moments in the natural world. Cassidie Alder
I found my way to wood carving via a series of other wood working endeavours, including joinery, treehouse building, and historic timber framing, but eventually found myself on the precipice a 3 year Classical Wood Carving course at City & Guilds of London Art School. From day 1 I knew that I’d found the thing I wanted to dedicate myself to. My work is primarily commission based and covers all manner of styles and scales of project. Portfolio.
